Teresiana is a cultural event lasting several days, which is dedicated to the 18th century, the time when the Habsburg Monarchy ruled the Croatian lands.
Maria Theresa, the Empress of the Habsburg Monarchy, implemented numerous significant changes and reforms during her lifetime. She abolished witch hunts, introduced mandatory schooling, and in 1756, she issued a decree by way of which the town of Bjelovar was founded. Today, the residents of Bjelovar celebrate the foundation of their town with this manifestation, during the course of which the streets become a large stage for numerous guests from the world of music, theatre and sports.
The most attractive segment within the Teresiana is certainly the staging of the Empress’sarrival into town. This play presents the history of the region at a time when Croatia was ruled by the greatest among the European royal families.
